Chat error messages: what should I do?

An error message showed up in the chat? Here is what it means and what to do.

Does a failed answer cost a credit?

No. When an answer fails while it is being generated, no credit is charged for that message. The chat says so with "No credit was charged for this message.".

"An error occurred while generating the response."

The answer was cut off along the way.

1. Click Retry under the message.
2. If that does not work, reload the page and send your message again.

"The assistant couldn't generate a response. Please try again."

ChatSEO produced nothing. Send your message again, rephrasing it if needed.

"The generation was interrupted before it finished."

Your message got no answer. Send it again.

"A generation is already in progress. Refresh to see the response."

An answer is already being generated in this conversation, for example from another tab or after a double click. Reload the page: the ongoing answer shows up.

Your message or file is too big

• "Your message is too long." Shorten it, or split your request into several messages.
• "Your PDF has too many pages (100 max)." Upload a shorter document.
• "Your image exceeds the maximum allowed size (8000px per dimension)." Resize it.

In these cases, retrying as is will not help: you need to change the message or the file.

"Something went wrong with this conversation"

This page replaces the whole conversation when it could not be displayed.

1. Click Try again.
2. If the page comes back, reload it.
3. If it persists, message us from the Need help? button at the top of the screen.

"Something went wrong" during onboarding

During your first-login flow, this message comes with "Your analysis is saved". Click Try again: what has already been analysed is not lost. More details in your first analysis.
